In mid-August, the American Medical Association (AMA) rolled out new guidance to medical providers across all disciplines aimed at helping them navigate extensive changes to the Medicare system made by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), including the new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). Dubbed the MIPS Action Plan, the guidance is aimed at helping doctors craft a custom plan for their respective practices to best adapt to the new payment systems and ensure that they remain in compliance with all applicable Medicare laws.

MACRA is the first major reform to the Medicare system in nearly 30 years. The AMA recently conducted a survey which revealed that most doctors aren’t adequately prepared to implement the new system in their practices, which led to the organization creating this new resources to help them.
